Cluck Rhymes with...

Great info on The Chicken Ranch, touted as possibly the longest running brothel in the US (1844 - 1973) at The Handbook Of Texas Online.

Only white, presentable, and sober men were admitted... and the working women cleared an estimated $300.00 a week in the 1950s.

Evidently the Best Little Whorehouse in Texas was a favorite with the military and the site mentions a great example of misuse of funds and equipment:

One base even supplied transportation via helicopter to the ranch.

Also interesting is the related page on Texas prositution. It produced this little gem for the Alamo City:

By far the two most infamous centers of prostitution in Texas during the post-war years were San Antonio and especially Galveston. "If God couldn't stop prostitution, why should l?" queried the mayor of Galveston who held the post from 1947 to 1955.

Hee.

So much for vaunted morality.
