Absence
Yes, its been a while.
And no, no great reason for not posting.
Its not as if I've been off traveling or deeply involved in a project or something.
I mean the kitchen remodel continues at the normal glacial pace and there has been the odd jaunt to Laredo and Houston... but nothing terribly absorbing or distracting.
During this time, there has been a steady stream of visitors despite my neglect. About 10 a day. Mostly people finding it through bizarre searches. Those who were regulars have pretty much given up -- familiar with my short attention span.
On Google, its actually slipped from the number two spot to number five -- behind a British post-grunge rock band, an Australian indoor cricket team, a California acapella quartet and some sort of net lingo site. Google "Bohica" and you'll see what I mean.
So what else have I been up to?
Well.
Since you ask.
I did have enjoyable times at the Puro Slam and the Oxymoron performance last week... Great visiting poet from New Mexico and some fab haiku from this beautiful underage queer boy. Funny thing was Haiku boy was perched front row at the Woodlawn also. He recognized us and D complimented his poems after bulldozing into him in the lobby during intermission. San Antonio can be a very small town.
There is an adventure of sorts in the offing for tomorrow. One of my league-mates is taking us to a local custom cue shop. Not that I really need a new cue... its affluenza making me want one.
My current cheapo Sneaky Pete has done just fine since 1996. Paid about $35 bucks for her. Another $20 snagged a hard sided case. More than adequate for my simple needs.
Over the years, I've inflicted similar ones on all my relatives and a few of my closer recreational pool buds -- you know who you are -- as Christmas or Birthday bagatelles.
Which is how I started thinking about it now. November is birthday month and D's is four days before mine.
In a classic case of shopping for what I want vice what the recipient might prefer, I started pricing Petes on the web last month. They range from $30 for one like mine to about $200 for a Muecci. Then I ran across a site that makes them by hand for $250... I figured one for her and one for me. I'm worth it, right? And its a custom job for only $50 more than an admittedly top of the line brand, but still mass produced Muecci. What a deal. You only turn 32 once, right?
However, there is a six month wait and far too many customization decisions for me to make on my own. (Type of wood, cue tip, joint, shaft diameter, and cue weight) I mean, I kinda know what I want -- but don't want to choose for D.
So after mulling it over for a week or so, I spilt the beans yesterday. Luckily, she wants her own cue.
So tonight it was a topic with the guys on the team. Two things of interest resulted -- one has a line on Muecci Petes for $125 which may change the economic calculus some what and the other has been buying his cues from this local craftsman for years. Hence tomorrow's field trip.
Other than that... there is a food and wine event this Saturday and an out of town friend will be escorting us to a black tie thingie at the Hall of Horns.
And Halloween! How could I forget? Vampire as usual and more than likely the local rainbow club. They tend to have the best people watching.
No candy though. Another stupid tradition I refuse to support. Besides, the kids in my neighborhood suck.
I refer you to this past Bohica -- Vicious Vermin Vandals -- if you need details. Yes, I am still holding a grudge and there is no way in hell they'll get sweets out of me.
*sigh*
My life is so pedestrian.
