Change of Venue

ABC has a kewl report on Marijuana cultivation in the US. Evidently, the drug war powers that be think Mexican dealers are setting up plantations North of the border to avoid the hassle of smuggling weed past La Migra. They tout finding tortilla presses and growth journals kept in Spanish at raided sites to back their theory.

Maybe. Maybe not.

Tortilla presses as an indicator of foreign ownership?

I mean, seriously. Couldn't innovative Americans be responsible for what is called a corporate approach to production?

Aside from the fact that many Americans eat tortillas -- I myself had two just yesterday -- Migrant labor has been used for years to grow all sorts of cash crops and Cannabis Sativa has long been rumored the number one agricultural money maker for the state of Kentucky.

So I think they're a bit hasty -- but my quibble with the Mexico finger pointing aside, the article has interesting facts and figures about modern methods and street values.

On the topic, here is an article updating the initiative to legalize pot in Nevada -- very amusing: Brothels, Blackjack and Bongs... Oh My! from the Christian Science Monitor... Plus this one -- Marijuana Questions Also On Ballots Elsewhere -- which provides an overview of initiatives in San Franscisco, Arizona, and of all places... South Dakota.
