Culture Vulture

Last night was partially spent at the Majestic... SA Symphony.

Its not a regular thing by any means, but I was glad to catch that particular performance.

It was the classical version of the Devil Went Down to Georgia.

Seriously.

The soloist rosined up his bow and fire really flew from his fingertips...

He played and played... furiously -- hand running up and down the bridge.

At one point he even paused the entire orchestra to remove broken horsehair from his bow.

It went on for forty minutes or so... and as a soloist he stood with no music -- it was all memorized.

Wowsa.

But towards the end I must confess my notoriously short attention span kicked in. I mean the guy was amazing, but he was amazing for so long that I had a hard time staying focused.

I guess even virtuosity can become common over time.

To back up my Charley Daniels reference -- click over to the program notes.

Tchaikovsky looked long and hard before finding a violinist willing to perform his Violin Concerto and it was kinda kewl to have a bonafide Russian of sorts up on stage last night.

Other than that... interesting article about cyber enhancement for pool players. Inspired by an episode of Quantum Leap -- once again proving what the mind can conceive technology will grow to achieve.
