Journey to Mecca

Sunday afternoon was a road trip to Fredericksburg -- part of the German Hill Country region North of San Antonio.

It is also the home of Fischer & Wieser -- the makers of the most awesome Roasted Raspberry Chipotle Sauce -- bohica'd here: Ode to Salmon Chipotle.

So far, I have only been lucky enough to try their Mango Ginger Habanero Sauce, Wild Berry Preserves, and of course -- the incredible Raspberry Chipotle. These three items are stocked in bulk sizes at Costco -- which I swing through every other week or so.

More variety meant buying blind from the web site or a three hour day trip to Das Peach House -- one of the three physical locations Fisher and Wieser maintains in Fredericksburg.

Wandering around with a gratis cup of quality coffee, I encountered multiple tasting opportunities -- including a large selection of Texas wines.

So what goodies did I get???

Well...

The pick of the litter is a preserve. Cinnamon-Orange Tomato preserves to be exact.

When I read the label, my initial reaction was -- "Ew... Ick" -- which usually means I really ought to try it.

Sure enough -- its fabulous. Who would have thought -- tomatoes, oranges and cinnamon...

I am not a big jam and toast girl, but this stuff is pretty damn good.

A teaspoon of the Cranberry Orange Pecan Honey Butter was amazing microwaved inside a cored out apple.

And then there is the Charred Pineapple Bourbon Sauce which I can't wait to slather on pork chops.

Also still to try is Texas Amaretto Peach Pecan Preserves which has huge chunks of nuts floating inside the jar, Lavender Lemon Applesauce, Bread and Butter Garlic Hors d'oeuvres with Chipotles, and a potential piece de resistance -- Texas Beer Jelly.

Yum!
